Student clubs run every booth at Asian Night Market, and student performers keep the lawn busy all evening. Both applications are open until Friday, October 16.

Applications for this year’s booths and performances are closed. You can still read how it all works below, or email basis.nchs@gmail.com with questions.

Booths

Run a booth

Any BASIS Chandler club or class can run a booth. Sell food, host a game or share a craft, as long as it’s safe and follows school rules. Half of your booth’s profit comes back to your club, and the other half goes to the Annual Teacher Fund.

Booth application

Due Friday, October 16

It’s a short Google Form and opens in a new tab. Send one application for each booth.

How it works

From the application to the end of the night. We’ll email your club after you apply with everything else you need.

  1. Apply by Friday, October 16

Send one application for each booth. Clubs that apply first get priority for their product.

  2. Plan your expenses

We send you the booth expenses master form. List everything you plan to buy.

  3. Wait for approval before buying

Amazon items are ordered through the school. For anything you buy yourself, keep the receipts so you can be reimbursed.

  4. Get ready

Make a poster, plan your decorations and line up three to six volunteers. Bring trash bags and a container for tickets.

  5. Run your booth

Keep it staffed all evening. Afterward, clean up your area, count your tickets and turn in your envelope.

The rules

The short version. The FAQ below has the details.

  • SafetyNo sharp items, such as darts, and no gambling with tickets or money.
  • PowerOutlets run on generators this year. One outlet per booth costs an extra $25.
  • PropaneAllowed, but only adults may handle it, and an adult must supervise it the whole time.
  • FoodWear gloves (provided) and print an ingredients list. Plates and utensils are provided. Bring your own cooler and ice.
  • VolunteersClubs bring their own. We suggest three to six so people can take breaks.

Money

50% of booth profit (revenue minus expenses) is kept by the club that ran the booth, and 50% is donated to the Annual Teacher Fund (ATF).

The school and NCHS will recount and confirm the number of tickets collected for your booth. Then the school will add 50% of the profit as credits to your club’s budget. All credits need to be used by the end of the school year.

There’s no exact answer, since the number of customers varies each year. For reference, last year’s total profit was $10,718, and the ATF portion was $5,359. We suggest keeping your costs as low as possible. If your costs are low, it won’t be a big issue even if you don’t sell everything.

Running your booth

Clubs are responsible for planning their booth and turning in all forms on time. Before the event, create a poster, plan decorations, bring trash bags, bring a ticket container, and recruit enough volunteers to run your booth (we suggest three to six; fewer is okay, but you will be busy). During the event, run your booth and make sure it is staffed the whole time. Afterwards, clean up your table, count the tickets you earned, place them in the provided envelope, fill out all required information on the front, and take the completed envelope to the information center.

We strongly recommend three to six volunteers per booth. The exact number depends on your booth’s needs, and each club is responsible for keeping its booth staffed throughout the event. Plan enough volunteers to rotate in shifts so everyone has time to rest and eat.

No. Clubs must provide their own volunteers.

Every booth must be assigned to one club or class, which is where the final profit split goes. However, volunteers don’t all need to be members of that club, so other students may help run your booth.

Yes. Volunteers can purchase tickets ahead of time so they can buy food during the event. It’s each club’s responsibility to make sure its volunteers have time to rest and eat.

Clubs are responsible for cleaning up their own booth and the area around it. NCHS will only collect a booth’s tickets after seeing a picture of the cleaned-up area. Other cleanup is handled by volunteers.

Rules & safety

All booths must be safe and follow school rules. No sharp items (e.g. darts). No gambling with tickets or money.

Yes. This year, outlets are powered by generators, so using one costs an additional $25. The limit is one outlet per booth.

Propane tanks are permitted this year, but they can only be managed by adults and must be supervised by adults at all times.

Food booths must wear gloves (provided by the school) and print ingredient lists. Plates and utensils are also provided by the school; please estimate how many of each you’ll need when you fill out the form.

Yes, but you must bring your own cooler and ice.

Forms & purchasing

Booth applications are due October 16. After that, we’ll reach out with further information, including the booth expenses master form.

Everything you plan to buy must be listed on the master form, which you’ll receive after submitting your booth application. If an item can be ordered through Amazon, submit a request and we’ll order it through the school. If you can only buy it yourself (e.g. fresh fruit or something from an Asian market), keep your receipts so you can be reimbursed. Do not make any purchases until your booth expenses master form (not the interest form) is approved.

Only expendable items can be reimbursed (e.g. food ingredients, prizes for games). Anything you plan to take home after the event (e.g. game boards, art equipment) cannot be reimbursed.

Yes, but you must submit a separate application for each booth.

Clubs that submit first get priority for their product, but no one can monopolize the market, so similar products may still appear. For example, if one club sells Indian tea, others may too, though the number may be limited. If multiple clubs want to sell the same product, we’ll let them know so they can decide whether to change.
